Venus X, New York's standout female DJ opened up Planet X, her own concept store in Chinatown. The space is a new home for her pop-up store that she opened nearly nine months ago in Bushwick. Bringing the era of the club kid back to life, Venus X and her collaborators brought their theme “Freak Pharmacy”, named after Ghe2ogoth1k party in Brooklyn, to reality. Ghe2ogoth1k is the movement founded by Venus X in 2009 to redefine societal norms and bring power to self-expression.
The movement has become larger than life, being implemented on runways and far beyond just the NY nightlife scene. The theme was evident with the biohazard manicure stations, IV bags filled with flesh-toned tapioca, and blood-red vodka shots served in syringes. The new Chinatown location is a change from the previous home in Brooklyn, moving from color splashes and psychedelic décor to a clean and sterile and all white look.
Venus X makes designs for the modern club kid, mixing her own apparel with Bjarne Melgaard's streetwear, Kamikaze’s graphic fashions, and Lou Dallas’s modern baroque style. Venus X graced the stage at our third installment of Burgers and Beats this May, and is now back out in New York taking the city by storm.
