In 2016, streaming sales beat digital downloads for the first time in history. This shows that the average consumer is moving away from I-tunes sales and towards Apple Music memberships at a faster rate than when people moved from buying CDs to purchasing music digitally. The landscape is evolving quickly. The Nielsen report finds that much of this is due to Hip-Hop and R&B fans, making up 22% of the market.
Rock remains a dominant force in both Digital & Physical Sales, but collectively people are streaming 1 billion songs a day. That dwarfs the amount of downloads a year at 730 million downloads. Click HERE for more information on how streaming is saving the music industry.
