Washington, DC artist Merima Repesa is encouraging others to put their own artistic spin on her art with the release of a coloring book. She announced on Tuesday via her Twitter account that people will be able to buy the coloring book at her art exhibition show in Urban Outfitters and it would be her last show of 2016.
I have one last show for 2016 and it's this upcoming Sunday @ Urban Outfitters in Gallery Place from 5-8PM.— world's fastest (@merimartusa) August 10, 2016
The after school essentials book features a small collection of pieces she has done in the last 2 years inspired by politics mostly, in the playful manner she always delivers the majority of her pieces in.
Adult coloring books have spiked in popularity, so much so that the world’s largest wooden pencil manufacturer, Faber-Castell, reports they are experiencing “double-digit growth” in sales and have increased production to keep up with the demand for colored pencils.
Adult coloring books are now found throughout the world in a variety of venues, including bookstores, museums and even hospitals. They are considered to be a relaxing and meditative hobby that also invokes creativity and childhood nostalgia.
“Always loved coloring books growing up. Learned how to draw from tracing the drawings from a Looney Tunes coloring book I had as a kid,” Merimart says. “For the release, I've been sitting on this idea for a while now. And what better time than to release it for back to school.”
To cop your very own #BackToSchool coloring book, make sure you go to her last show, where she will have them for sale at Urban Outfitters on August 14th from 5pm to 8pm. The event will feature other artwork by TRAP BOB, Filthy Savior, Introspective Sky, Sydney Vernon, Mvrjoni, and Brains. More info in the flyer below.
