Just days after unleashing his rendition of Drake’s “One Dance,” President Obama was feeling musical once again during yesterday’s White House Independence Day Celebration. In following up on performances from his pal Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monáe, Obama took the opportunity to wish his oldest daughter Malia a happy birthday.
Appropriately, Mr. President was joined by Kendrick and Janelle — in addition to the audience — to sing happy birthday to Malia.
“Just because it’s the job of a father to embarrass his daughters, I’ve got one last job,” he said after speaking on Lamar and Monáe’s performances. “It just so happens that we celebrate our country’s birthday on the same day that we celebrate my oldest daughter’s birthday. So, just a quick happy birthday for Malia.”
Towards the end of the song, Malia then joined her father on stage, greeting him with a heartwarming embrace.
