In recent months, rappers have begun to voice their disgust with and distaste for Donald Trump, with notable examples like Vic Mensa blasting his "hateful messages" and YG and Nipsey Hussle dropping their single "Fuck Donald Trump" (with a Macklemore and G-Eazy remix, too).
French Montana is the latest to speak out, criticizing the presidential candidate's portrayal of Muslims -- French is Muslim himself -- in a new interview with XXL.
"As far as everything that Donald Trump's saying about ISIS, about Muslims -- I feel like he's looking at everyone as a whole, when he should really be separating Muslims," he said in the piece, which later touches on his new album, his relationship with Khloe Kardashian, the death of Chinx and more. "ISIS is like how Bloods is, it's like how Crips is: Just because Crips live in the neighborhood, it doesn't mean that the whole neighborhood is going around shooting people and gangbanging.
"If you really look into ISIS, 80 percent of the crime they commit is against Muslim people. I feel like a lot of people don't know that. A lot of people is ignorant to learning about the Muslim culture, learning about what ISIS stand for. They stand for corruption."
Trump, of course, has called for a temporary ban of Muslims into the U.S. And though it's difficult to find specific numbers on ISIS's victims, according to CNN, the majority of their victims are Muslim, and from 2000 through 2014, attacks in the West made up only 2.6 percent of worldwide victims.
For French, unlike for Trump, Islam stands for positivity.
"My religion plays a big role in my success," he said. "It's just about doing positive...You fear not doing the right the thing."
