NoMa Brightens Up With Pow Wow DC!

POW! – It’s the impact that art has on a person.
WOW! – It’s reaction that art has on a viewer.
Together they form POW WOW, which is a Native American term that describes a gathering that celebrates culture, music and art.
— Pow! Wow!

No more bland office buildings and apartment buildings is on the slate for NoMa. In its debut in the District, artist from the global art movement, POW! WOW!, will brighten things up a bit with murals throughout the area in a series called POW! WOW! DC. Stemming from a week-long event in Hawaii, POW! WOW! has grown into a global network of artists and organizes gallery shows, lecture series, schools for art and music and in this case mural projects.

More than 16 artists will be a part of this project including locals like No Kings Collective, Decoy, and Cory Oberndorfer. Be on the lookout for their murals in locations like shuttered nightclubs Ibiza and The Crucible, along with New York Avenue. Paint hits the pavement May 20 and will last until the end of the month.
