The Washington Monument Reopened on Sunday, April 3, after the elevator stopped working Friday for the second time in a week.  National Park Service spokesman, Mike Litterest, said that Friday's problem was traced to a faulty electric power supply that at times created above normal currents.

According to Litterest, the elevetor system responded as intended, sensing the elevated currents, it shut itself down as a  safety measure. The elevator is being closely watched due to the frequent occurrence of failures.
