This week MITD’s local business pick is Harper Macaw!
Harper Macaw is a local chocolate company located in NE that crafts edible works of cacao art. Started by a husband and wife team, Colin and Sarah Hartman, Harper Macaw is transforming chocolate into a force for tropical reforestation.
Harper Macaw is proud to directly source their cacao beans from Brazil, sending a portion of their proceeds to reforestation in Brazil’s Amazon and Atlantic forests, which the cacao beans rely on. Harper Macaw also pays about twice the market rate for quality beans, giving incentives for Brazilian farmers to stay in the chocolate business.
Harper Macaw chocolate factory is located @ 3160 Bladensburg Rd NE Washington, DC 20018 and offers an hour tour of the factory for $10 every Saturday from 1-5pm. Book a tour online through their website and check out their Youtube to find out more about the Harper Macaw chocolate making process!
Offering a variety of chocolate treats, Harper Macaw can be found at Compass Coffee, From the Farmer, J Chocolatier, Little Red Fox, Maketto, The Chocolate House and several others! Harper Macaw also provides online purchasing with free shipping on orders over $50!
