The long awaited venue announced over the summer that the first exhibit would be made of the same recycled materials from the popular National Building Museum exhibit The Beach. Once the exhibit was closed, volunteers helped move over 650,000 recycled balls into the vacant 14,000-square-foot space.
According to the competition's site, the competition is open to all members of the public and the winner will be given $10,000 for the build-out and a prize of $3,500. The winning concept "should transform the constituents materials -- and the space itself -- into an entirely new experience."
Entries are due March 4 and the installation is slated to open to the public April 30 and stay open until June. Dupont Underground organizers say it will open fully this fall.
