After a major 2 year renovation, Renwick Gallery has opened its doors. To honor this achievement, they turned the entire museum into an exhibition called WONDER.
Nine contemporary artists took over the gallery creating impressive and massive art work. Jennifer Angus, Chakaia Booker, Gabriel Dawe, Tara Donovan, Patrick Dougherty, Janet Echelman, John Grade, Maya Lin and Leo Villareal all use their talents bringing their creativity into one installation all inspired by the Renwick. These nine artists used objects from our everyday lives that we often look over such as index cards, marbles, and wood to transform space in the most surprising way.
Some of the exhibits includes Jennifer Angus usage of spiraling, geometric designs made out of wallpaper and textiles, Chakaia Booker weaves old rubber tires into a huge labyrinth, Gabrielle Dawe uses thousands strands of colorful polyester thread to create a sky of color and light from the floor to the ceiling.
WONDER opened November 13th and is up for six months. Renwick Gallery is located at 1700 Pennsylvania Ave NW and is open daily from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
