MITD's Woman Crush Wednesday for the week is Melissa Mercado.
Melissa is an artist that uses graphic illustrations to create fun and playful images and a feminist response to society. She uses pop culture in her work (recreating Disney Princesses) and every day objects like lipsticks and bullets in the most simple way to portray beauty, style and power of women. Melissa's work is inspired by modern art of pop art, minimalism and art deco.
Melissa majored in art at The Art Institute of Washington and worked as a makeup artist at MAC and NARS Cosmetics. While working to make a means for herself, she kept up with her work at home, creating pieces and hanging them around her house. In 2014, Melissa was invited to display her work at Wallplay Gallery's "Time" exhibit. This exhibit was put on by Greg Cummins and Josh Seidman to explore the concept of time through different kinds lf mediums.
