On Sunday night in a tilt against the Ottowa Senators, Alex Ovechkin made history. The Washington Capitals star became the first Russian player to reach the 500-goal milestone.

Ovechkin dethroned fellow Russian Sergei Fedorov, (483), in November and went one to traverse the 500 goal mark. This feat established Ovechkin as the fifth-fastest NHL player to reach the milestone--doing so in 801 games. Additionally, he is only the sixth European-born player in NHL history to eclipse 500 goals.

Ovechkin scored the first goal of his career at the age of 19. Below is a video of this memorable moment.

Now at age 30, below is Ovechkin scoring his 500th goal.

Next, Ovechkin has his eyes set on the NHL all-time goals record--currently 894, posted by NHL legend Wayne Gretzky.
