Ashley Patterson, a Silver Spring native, knows that people in the DMV have a lot to offer. She created an organization called The Project P.A.T.T (People taking Action Through Teamwork) Organization to represent any individual who has ever wanted to make a difference in society.
The organization is working to create a platform that will use the talents such as local artists, musicians, designers, DJ’s, MUA’s barbers and many more to give back to those in need through a series of community based projects. The purpose of Project P.A.T.T is to strengthen the DMV as a whole where we can become one.
Ashley believes that “we spend a significant amount of time searching for meaning and purpose. I have lived in the DMV for 24 years where we are like crabs in a barrel, pulling each other down because we think our individuality is being compromised if we all work together based on our common beliefs.”
Project P.A.T.T.’s first event is called “CHOPPED.” They’ve teamed up with local barbers in the area that are willing to give free haircuts to individuals in need for the holiday. So far, three barbers committed to use their days off to visit a Family Service Inc. and a Montgomery County Coalition shelter starting in 2016 to cut as many heads as they can.
