Gospel-soul newcomer Leon Bridges just released his first movie soundtrack contribution, “So Long.” The song will appear in Concussion, a sports drama that recounts the life of a forensic pathologist (played by Will Smith) who researched brain damage in NFL football players. At first listen, this easy-going, guitar-based track seems to reflect themes of both nostalgia and adversity that will appear in the movie.
Bridges has been busy since his debut album Coming Home dropped in late June. The title track was one of the top 10 most viral Spotify tracks, and “Smooth Sailin” peaked at #14. He also made a stop at the 9:30 Club last month, and will be touring with fellow R&B artist Son Little starting next year. Leon Bridges is certainly making a name for himself, and it will be interesting to see what he comes out with next. Listen to “So Long” below.
