Sunday was not the best day for DC United as they lost to Columbus Crew 5 to 0. The blowout was not only unexpected, but some went as far as to say hard to watch.
With playoffs on the line, this was not the way the team was hoping to end regular season. The loss brought the team from second place to fourth in the upcoming Eastern Conference being held on Sunday, November 1st.
United struggled to keep up with Columbus and eventually the team ended the regular season with a 2-6-1 record for the past nine matches. This defeat left United with their worst defeat in their 20-season history, and moved them from third to eighth in the final Supporters’ Shield table.
Their next game will be held at the RFK Stadium on Wednesday against New England. If United wins this first round of playoffs, they will have to either compete against Columbus Crew again, or New York Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Let’s hope practice makes perfect this time for the sake of the playoffs and will bring United to the end of the Semi Conference.
