We followed the scent of freshly baked cookies wafting through downtown and it lead us directly to D.C. native Christina Tosi's highly anticipated Momofuku Milk Bar.
Milk Bar is the sister bakery of the Momofuku restaurants made wildly popular by chef David Chang. Tosi went from working with Chang in the restaurants to running Milk Bar Stores in NYC, Toronto, and now the newest location-- right here at City Center in Washington D.C. Serving up signature sweets like cereal milk™ soft serve, cake truffles, and crack pie, Milk Bar has gained an enormous foodie following.
Eater asked Tosi about her homecoming and bringing Milk Bar to the capital and this is what she had to say: "New York is such a food Mecca, and at the time, 12 years ago, D.C. was not the food scene that it is now. It's so exciting that it's actually going to happen. The space is beautiful, and its really fun to get to go into a city, a town that you're like, 'I know everything about the people...I don't know, it's really comforting. New York has been my home for a while, but the D.C. area is where I grew up. It will always feel like home."
The actual date of the store opening is still pretty hush hush but we have a feeling you might be getting your fix of crack pie as soon as tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some photos to drool over:
